Just yesterday, I was reading an article that had an image of the bottom-side of an iPhone, showing it’s headphone jack. I thought, “How can these devices be made any thinner if they are limited by the width of the headphone jack?”

Obviously something proprietary can be developed, but then it’s not universal. There needs to be a balance between legacy (standard headphone jack) and new technology in order to be successful, then slowly migrate to that new standard. Similar to how we transitioned from serial and parallel PC ports to USB.
